According to Small Stones’ Facebook page they have singed Stoner Rock band Lo-Pan to their ever expanding record label.
How frickin’ awesome is that!!

So just in the past 5 months Small Stone has:

  • released Sasquatch – III
  • released Solace – A.D.
  • singed Black Sleep of Kali
  • singed Lo-Pan
  • will be releasing a new Gozu album

These are just the things I am aware of because I am sure they have done a lot more than that!!

Solace - AD Artist: Solace
Album: A.D.
Year: 2010
Genre: Stoner Metal

This is one of the most anticipated albums of the year and it lives up to the pedestal that I placed it upon. The last full release from Solace was 2004′s “13″ which is a killer album and the only other thing they put out was the EP “The Black Black” in 2007. “A.D.” is a solid masterpiece of sonic fury that is a must have. These guys know how to rock and they take the listener on a journey of sound that can only be described as epic.

Black Sleep of Kali – Black Sleep of Kali EP (2009)

blacksleebofkail-cd Artist: Black Sleep of Kali
Album: Black Sleep of Kali EP
Year: 2008
Genre: Stoner Metal, Sludge/Doom

Black Sleep of Kali are from Denver, CO and you need to hear their current release which will blow you fucking mind.  I don’t recall where of how I found out about these guys but I feel they have huge potential.  I see (hear) them bridging the gap between bands like Solace and The Sword and Sludge/Doom bands Let the Night Roar and 16.  They’ve got that heavy Doom/Stoner Metal sound but what sets them apart is the fact that the singer can sing and you can actually understand what he’s singing.  For a band that has only put out one EP and have been together only a for a few short years they sound like seasoned pros.    According to their Facebook page they have just (April 2010) finished up recording their next album on SmallStone Records which should will be awesome.

For now sleep on this: Black Sleep Of Kali - Black Sleep Of Kali (34.19 MB)

*UPDATE*
They have an awesome deal at their online store:
1 Black Sleep of Kali S/T CD
1 Communist Sailor Shirt
1 Rhino Patch
1 Quake Patch
2 Speaker Stickers
For $15.00
Check it out.

The first time I listened to this album I was not impressed because they sounded  like every other Stoner Rock band on Small Stone Records but a second listen opened my mind to Ironweed’s heavier side.  The second go around caught me off-guard because I wasn’t focusing on the music at all.  It was one of those situations where I listening to them while working on other stuff and it hit me.  ”What the fuck am I listening to?  This is good stuff.  Holly shit it’s Ironweed!”

Indian Ladder is an 55 minutes of Angry Stoner Rock with big heavy crunching riffs and lots of screaming.

Brain Police – Beyond The Wasteland (2008)

The Brain Police come from “the land of ice and snow” better know as Reykjavik, Iceland and they play kick ass Stoner Rock. They have all the makings of a great band, they’ve got fat fuzzy riffs layered on top of a solid drums with a singer with a cigarette and whiskey soaked voice that can growl, scream and even carry a tune.  The Brain Police crank out a mix of heavy, fuzzy, speed and aggressive tunes that remind me of Scissorfight.

These Icelandic rockers have been fuckin’ it up since 1998 but it wasn’t until 2005 that they exposed them selves to the world beyond their island home.  Beyond the Wasteland is their first release on Small Stone records which is a solid play it end-to-end album that gets better every time I listen to it.
