Korotory - Age of Rebellion

Artist: Korotory
Album: Age of Rebellion
Year: 2009
Genre: Thrash/Death/Groove Metal

New York based Korotory, have been together since 1995 but “Age of Rebellion” is their first official release. You’d think that in a 15 year time span that a band would have put out a lot more music but you cannot rush perfection. Yes perfection. This album is a perfect mix of killer groove riffs, pounding drums and screaming vocals that makes every track better than the last.

Destro - As The Coil Unwinds

Artist: The Destro
Album: As The Coil Unwinds
Year: 2007
Genre: Hardcore/Sludge/Groove Metal

Named after the G.I. Joe villain, The Destro mix Hardcore, Sludge and Groove Metal into a murderous mix of grinding hell. I love how the songs build the music into a hardcore grinding fury and at the pinnacle the music slides into a Doomy/Slugey groove and at just the right moment you get pitched off the edge with Pantera style breakdowns.

Southern Death Threat

Artist: Southern Death Threat
Album: Southern Death Threat
Year: 2007
Genre: Groove Metal

This could be balls to the fucking wall awesome metal if they would get rid of the melodic slow songs.
Rap-core style start-stop crunching riffs with thundering double-bass drums and growling vocals.
It’s just a bummer this is their only release.

Tracks:
1) Screwface – Pantera+Korn+BlackLabel Society = Awesome!

2) Hit The Floor – Starts slow & heavy then faster and then Pantera/Korn/5FDP.
3) Rusty – Total let down.  It’s the nice radio friendly song.
4) Wanted Sevenfold – Heavy & fierce metal.
5) Beyond Forever – Starts out melodic and lame but gets heavier.
6) Hard Time In Texas – Angry, thundering metal.
7) Old Summit Lake Road – Starts out melodic and lame but it gets angry pissed.
8) Frontlines – YES!! HEAD BANGIN’ FUCKING METAL!!! w/ Screaming!!
9) Black Jack – More head bangin’ metal!!
10) F-Bomb (Instermental) – Needs some screaming vocals.
11) Beyond Forever (Acoustic) – suck.
12) Rusty (Long Version) – 22 more seconds of suck.

This album (aside from the sucky tracks) should be played at FULL BLAST!!

Pitch Black Forecast-Absentee

Artist: Pitch Black Forecast
Album: Absentee
Year: 2008
Genre: Thrash/Sludge/Groove Metal

Pitch Black Forecast was formed in 2005 with ex-members of Mushroomhead and Strapping Young Lad and have sadly only released this one album in 2008.  This is some really good stuff that mixes elements of Thrash, Hardcore, Groove Metal into a concoction that makes me want to mosh.  The funny thing about this is that I don’t really care for Mushroomhead or Strapping Young Lad but some how Pitch Black Forecast really works for me.

Check out the forecast: Pitch Black Forecast - Absentee (62 MB)

This sounds like a cross between Pantera and the Sepultura album Roots.

Here’s a blast from the past; Exhorder’s Slaughter in the Vatican (1990) and The Law (1992) on one CD.  These guys were commercially unsuccessful in the 90′s most likely due to their less MTV friendly lyrics and musical style than their peers, Pantera.

The god damn French!!  This is the second release form the French Power Metal outfit God Damn.  In Feb 2009 they released “Old Days“ and then in Dec 2009 they release “Goddamn” which is 7 tracks / 30 minutes of pure fucking power thrash.  This is pretty much a bonus disc to “Old Days” just released 10 months later.
