Gorilla Monsoon’s album “Damage King” took me by surprise like a sucker punch from a cinder block.  This German band plays the stoner sludge doom metal that I like because it’s not too slow and the singer isn’t deep throating the microphone. This album starts out slow with weird sound effects and noises that would send someone tripping on acid over the edge.  From there the album settles into a relentless assault of heavy HEAVY stoner doom.  The chugging riffs and pounding beats blend in perfectly with vocals that are doomy and aggressive without turning into Cookie Monster on 33-1/2 speed.
