Damnweevil were a San Francisco, CA base Sludge/Doom Metal band. According to their MySpace Page they are no longer active which is really disappointing because this album kills. On their Last.fm page they are tagged as “beersludge” which is funny and gross because I keep getting a visual of a wino laying on the ground nursing a bottle beer that been sitting out in the sun for a week opened and the beer has become solidified to the consistancy of honey and smells like a bottle-redemption center in July. Have you ever been to a bottle redemption center in July, it’s gross.
Anyway I found this on eMusic which could make a lot more money if they could tag their music correctly because Damnweevil has been placed in the Rock/Pop genre. WTF? I’ve listened to this album a few times this week and it’s got a unique sound which I’ll call “Doom-Thrash” because just as the music gets into a nice doomy groove it blinds-sides you with a brick to the noggin of all-out Thrashing Hardcore. I frickin’ love that shit. Each time I listen to this I find a new element with in the music that makes me realize this not just another Sludge Metal band this is a bunch of guys playing their hearts out and being true to the music.
